Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Narthex ("we", "us", "our") provides an AI-powered chat widget that churches embed on their websites. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

2. Information we collect

From church administrators

• Account email address and password (hashed)
• Church name, website URL, and knowledge base content you provide
• Billing information processed by Stripe (we do not store card numbers)

From website visitors (via the embedded widget)

• The text of questions and answers in chat sessions
• Contact information a visitor voluntarily provides when submitting a lead (name, email)
• An anonymous session identifier (randomly generated per visit, not tied to any personal ID)

3. How we use information

• To operate, maintain, and improve the Narthex service
• To route visitor questions to the correct church's knowledge base
• To deliver lead capture emails to the church whose widget was used
• To generate usage analytics for the church dashboard (conversation counts, common questions)
• To send transactional emails (billing, plan changes, usage alerts)

We do not use visitor conversation data to train AI models, sell data to third parties, or build advertising profiles.

4. Data ownership

Each church owns its own data — the knowledge base content it provides and the visitor conversations generated through its widget. We act as a data processor on your behalf. You may export or delete your data at any time by contacting us.

5. Data retention

Conversation logs are retained for 12 months from the date of the conversation, then automatically deleted. Lead submissions are retained until the church deletes them or closes their account. Account data is deleted 30 days after account closure.

6. Children

Narthex is not directed at children under 13. If a church operates children's ministries, we recommend they not collect any personal information from minors through the widget. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

7. Third-party services

We use the following sub-processors:

• Anthropic — AI inference. Conversation content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's data policies apply.
• Stripe — Payment processing for billing.

8. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you or your church's visitors by emailing hello@narthex.chat. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to account holders at least 14 days before taking effect.
